a versatile ancient household remedy that was already used by the ancient Egyptians. It is mined organically, as mineral soda ash in Africa & South America. Today, however, soda ash/soda products are almost all chemically manufactured. Sodium bicarbonate is a slightly basic sodium salt with chem. Formula NaHCO₃, PH value 8. Sodium bicarbonate has a deacidifying effect and reacts in combination with water, moisture or heat to release carbonic acid. Therefore, sodium bicarbonate should always be stored dry.

Baking soda has quite a few synonyms and is commercially available under: Baking Soda Table soda, sodium hydrogen carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, or food soda. Well-known brand names are: Kaiser soda & Bullrich salt.
